If you own a set of dentures or are looking into dentures, you may like to know how you keep them protected. Much like natural teeth, they thrive when you take good care of them. Well, you can get new ones, but you can save a lot of time and trouble when you preserve the ones you have. Here are some tips that can help.

Dentures are subject to breakage, especially if they get dropped. When you clean them, you may want to keep a gentle but steady grip on them. Even so, an accident can occur, but you can put something underneath them so they do not break if they fall. A folded towel can be a soft barrier between the dentures and the hard surface of the counter. A sink full of water can also be soft enough to break their fall.

We also recommend not using toothpaste and hard-bristled toothbrushes to clean the dentures. Toothpaste is designed for your teeth, but the materials that compose the dentures may not be strong enough to handle it. Hand soap can be soft enough, so you can use that instead. Hard-bristled toothbrushes can be harsh towards your natural teeth, so dentures may get ruined by them. Brushes with soft bristles are often recommended for both natural teeth and dentures.
